D&O insurance - Hitting the reset button

For the fourth time, Marsh New Zealand have partnered with the iOD to report on Director and Officer insurance (D&O) trends and insights. The pandemic and economic instability have fuelled significant increases in premiums and constricting of terms, but recent trends indicate insurers are becoming more flexible and pricing has started to stabilise. The report provides and overview of market developments and regulatory updates, including looking at new and emerging risks and perspectives from overseas.

Directors and officers operate in an extremely difficult environment. The fundamental principles governing their conduct have come under increasing judicial and regulatory scrutiny in New Zealand over the last couple of years.

There is little directors or officers can do to diminish the complexity of the business, legal and regulatory environment in which they operate. However, a great deal can be done to protect your personal assets through a combination of strong corporate governance, broad corporate indemnification and a risk transfer programme that includes a high quality Directors and Officers liability insurance programme.

Whether you are an independent professional director, are a company executive or run your own business, Marsh can help you manage your reputational and liability risks.

We can also assist you with identifying and managing risks within the organisations that you work for through the provision of risk management advice and appropriate business insurance cover.
